Tragic Death of 13-Year-Old Boy in Bijnor After Snakebite Ritual
In a heartbreaking incident from Bijnor, a 13-year-old boy named Amit Kumar has died after his family resorted to a superstitious ritual instead of taking him to a hospital for treatment of a snakebite. Police officials confirmed the details on Sunday, revealing that the tragic event unfolded over several days and has sparked widespread concern about healthcare practices in rural areas.
Details of the Incident and Ritual
Amit Kumar was bitten by a snake on Thursday, according to villagers. Instead of seeking immediate medical attention, his family took him to the banks of the Ganga River. There, as part of a ritual believed to cure snakebites, he was tied up and kept in flowing water for nearly 12 hours. This prolonged exposure and lack of proper treatment ultimately led to his death on Saturday.
The child was never brought to a government hospital for treatment, stated Dr. Shashank Chaudhary, the in-charge of the Community Health Centre (CHC). He emphasized that Amit could have been saved if he had been brought in time, highlighting the critical importance of prompt medical intervention in such cases.
Police Investigation and Social Media Impact
Adampur Station House Officer (SHO) Komal Tomar reported that no formal complaint has been filed so far. The incident came to light after a video surfaced on social media, drawing public attention to the case. We have begun investigating the case, Tomar added, indicating that authorities are now looking into the circumstances surrounding Amit's death to determine any potential negligence or legal violations.
