Sitapur Hospital Director and Doctor Face FIR Following Teenager's Death
In a tragic incident highlighting alleged medical negligence, an FIR has been registered against the director and a doctor of a private hospital in Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh, following the death of a 17-year-old girl. The case was lodged at Ramkot police station based on a complaint filed by the deceased's father after an administrative inquiry uncovered serious lapses in medical care and documentation.
Details of the Incident and Allegations
The deceased, identified as Kirti, was a resident of Dhavarsara village. According to the complaint submitted by her father, Munendra Singh, Kirti was admitted to a private hospital near Kashiram colony on January 26 after she complained of severe abdominal pain and fever.
In his FIR, Munendra alleged that despite repeated requests, no senior or qualified allopathic doctor examined his daughter during her treatment. He stated that her condition continued to deteriorate, and the attending doctor, Dr. Tripti Verma, who admitted the girl, allegedly failed to provide adequate medical care. Tragically, Kirti died the same night.
Family's Suspicion and Administrative Action
Munendra Singh further alleged that after Kirti's death, hospital director Rakesh Kumar Sharma attempted to send the body to Lucknow in an ambulance under the pretext of a referral. Suspecting wrongdoing, the family immediately informed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the District Magistrate (DM), demanding a thorough inquiry.
Following the complaint, a medical inspection was conducted by health department officials. Sources within the department revealed that the inquiry found multiple irregularities in the hospital's procedures and record-keeping.
License Suspension and Police Case
Acting on the inquiry report, the District Magistrate ordered the immediate suspension of the hospital's license and directed that all its operations be halted. Health department officials confirmed that this decisive action was taken due to prima facie evidence of negligence and procedural violations.
Subsequently, Ramkot police registered a formal case against hospital director Rakesh Kumar Sharma and treating doctor Dr. Tripti Verma. Additional Superintendent of Police for Sitapur, Alok Singh, stated that a comprehensive investigation is currently underway to examine all aspects of the case and determine the extent of liability.
This incident has raised serious concerns about medical accountability and patient safety in private healthcare facilities, prompting calls for stricter oversight and enforcement of medical standards to prevent such tragedies in the future.
