Mitigation Efforts and Public Health Response

To directly combat the health risks posed by the extreme temperatures, extensive arrangements have been implemented. Critical supplies of oral rehydration solution (ORS) and clean drinking water have been strategically deployed at numerous locations, including:

  1. Schools and anganwadis (childcare centers).
  2. Construction sites and industrial units.
  3. Labour congregation points in identified vulnerable areas.

The health department has significantly intensified its response efforts. In collaboration with various voluntary organisations, over 1,300 water distribution points have been established across Ahmedabad alone. This network includes more than 200 points specifically located in high-density and high-traffic zones to maximize accessibility.

Educational institutions have also adapted their schedules to protect students. The majority of municipal schools have shifted to morning sessions to minimize exposure to the peak afternoon heat. This sensible adjustment has been extended to approximately 2,074 anganwadis, safeguarding young children.

Furthermore, all active construction sites have been equipped with ORS and drinking water facilities. Additional provisions have been made at 66 labour nakas (designated labour points) and 65 worker congregation points, ensuring that daily wage earners and outdoor workers have the resources needed to cope with the dangerously rising temperatures.
