Hyderabad Police Cracks Down on Adulterated Ginger-Garlic Paste Manufacturing Unit

In a significant crackdown on food adulteration, Hyderabad Police apprehended a man for allegedly manufacturing and selling adulterated ginger and garlic paste. The arrest followed a surprise inspection conducted at SKR Food Products, located in the Kattedan area of the city.

Unhygienic Conditions and Low-Quality Ingredients Exposed

Acting on credible intelligence, the Commissioner’s Task Force, in collaboration with the H-FAST team, raided the facility. During the inspection, authorities discovered that the unit was operating under highly unhygienic and unsanitary conditions. The accused, identified as Hasan Ali Rupani, was reportedly using substandard raw materials in the production process.

Investigators found that Rupani was incorporating garlic peels and chemical additives such as acetic acid and xanthan gum into the paste. These substances are not approved for use in food products under standard safety regulations and can pose serious health risks to consumers.

Massive Seizure of Contaminated Products and Equipment

The police seized a substantial quantity of adulterated goods and equipment from the premises. More than 4,000 kilograms of ginger-garlic paste was confiscated, along with 6,210 kg of inferior raw materials, various chemicals, and manufacturing machinery.

The total estimated value of the seized items is approximately Rs 22 lakh. Authorities noted that the paste was stored in open containers, exposing it to environmental contaminants and further compromising food safety.

Lack of Certifications and Widespread Distribution

During the raid, it was revealed that the unit lacked proper food safety certifications and licenses required for such operations. This absence of regulatory compliance raised serious concerns about the quality and safety of the products being sold.

The adulterated ginger-garlic paste was reportedly supplied to numerous wholesale stores, restaurants, and catering services across Hyderabad. This widespread distribution potentially exposed a large number of consumers to health hazards.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Actions

Hyderabad Police have registered a case against Hasan Ali Rupani under relevant sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the adulteration racket and identify any other individuals or entities involved.

Authorities have urged consumers to exercise caution and purchase food products only from reputable and certified sources. This incident highlights the critical importance of stringent food safety measures and regular inspections to prevent such malpractices in the food industry.
