The Indore Municipal Corporation has imposed a spot fine of Rs 2.25 lakh on a businessman from Sanwer Road for cutting down three tamarind trees without obtaining the necessary permission. Officials have described this act as a clear violation of environmental protection norms.

The trees were felled by Shahrukh Khan, the operator of Goodwill Trends, located in Sector-C Industrial Area on Sanwer Road, which falls under Zone 17, Ward 18. Upon inspection, civic body officials discovered that all three trees had been cut from the roots, leaving no chance for regrowth.
Action by Civic Authorities
Rajendra Rathore, in-charge of the IMC garden department, confirmed the action. Under his direction, the department has been conducting a sustained drive to protect the city's green cover. Rathore stated, 'Strict action will continue to be taken against those who damage the city's greenery. Cutting any tree without permission is a punishable offence.'
He further appealed to residents and business establishments to cooperate in tree conservation efforts. He emphasized the importance of obtaining the necessary permission from the corporation before cutting or trimming any tree, whether on private or public property.
