Jaipur: Jagatpura, one of the city's rapidly developing residential and commercial hubs, continues to grapple with poor drainage, damaged roads, and sanitation issues despite its growth. Areas like Mahal Road and the popular Capital Mall witness heavy daily footfall, but a mere 30 minutes of rainfall on Thursday was sufficient to flood the road outside the mall, slowing traffic and leaving commuters struggling to navigate the waterlogged stretch.
Persistent Drainage Problems
Locals report that the waterlogging issue has persisted for nearly a year and worsens during rains. A shopkeeper at Capital Mall, speaking on condition of anonymity, highlighted a safety hazard caused by an open drain near the road. “Last year, the drain was opened for cleaning but was never properly covered. Since then, vehicles frequently get stuck, and people have fallen while crossing the area,” he said.
Garbage Dumping Aggravates Situation
Residents note that the open drain has become a dumping ground for garbage, further obstructing water flow during rainfall. Waste often chokes the drain, causing water to spill onto the road within minutes. “Even a short spell of rain turns the road into a mess. If this is the condition before monsoon, the situation during heavy rains will be worse,” said Ashul Lakhwani, a local trader.
Unresolved Complaints
People living and working in the area have lodged complaints with the Jaipur Municipal Corporation and other departments multiple times, but no permanent solution has been provided so far. Digvendra Bhardwaj, a resident, emphasized that Jagatpura is expanding rapidly, yet civic infrastructure fails to keep pace. “New buildings and commercial spaces are coming up quickly, but basic facilities like drainage and road maintenance are still neglected. Unless these problems are fixed, the area will continue to face waterlogging every monsoon,” he said.
