Tragic Suicide in Trichy After Man's Beloved Pet Goat Dies from Illness
A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, where a 29-year-old man died by suicide after the goat he raised with deep affection passed away due to illness. The tragic event occurred on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Deceased and the Incident
The deceased has been identified as V Balraj, a resident of Keela Anbil village in Lalgudi taluk. Balraj worked as a farm labourer and had studied up to Class VII. He was unmarried and lived with his family.
According to his father, Veerasamy, who is also a farm worker, Balraj acquired the lamb approximately six months ago. He developed an extraordinary bond with the animal, treating it more like a cherished pet than ordinary livestock. "My son got the lamb around six months ago, and started feeding and treating it like a pet rather than ordinary cattle," Veerasamy stated in his police complaint.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy
The goat fell ill and died on Tuesday, plunging Balraj into a state of severe depression. Despite efforts from his family to console and counsel him, he remained inconsolable. "He was inconsolable despite our repeated advice and counselling," Veerasamy recounted.
Around 7:30 PM on the same day, family members were informed that Balraj had been found hanging from a tree near the village bus stop. The distraught family immediately rushed him to the primary health centre in Anbil. From there, he was referred to Lalgudi Government Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival.
Police Investigation and Autopsy Findings
Police authorities arranged for an autopsy at Lalgudi Hospital and subsequently handed over the body to the family. A police official provided details of the preliminary findings, stating, "There were no visible external injuries on the victim's body other than neck wound caused by hanging. Visceral samples have been sent for analysis for a detailed investigation."
Lalgudi police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which pertains to suspicious deaths. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain all circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
