Mohali Spinal Centre Secures Rs 60 Lakh Grant from Indian Oil for Medical Equipment

The government-run Regional Spinal Injuries Centre in Mohali has received a significant boost with a grant of Rs 60 lakh from the Indian Oil Company (IOC). This funding is earmarked for the procurement of essential medical equipment, aimed at enhancing the facility's capabilities in treating spinal injuries.

Memorandum of Understanding Signed

An official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to formalize the grant agreement. Prof Raj Bahadur, the Director of the Regional Spinal Injuries Centre, represented the institution, while Aushtosh Gupta, the Executive Director of IOC, signed on behalf of the company. The signing ceremony marks a pivotal step in strengthening the centre's infrastructure through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Importance of CSR Support

Prof Raj Bahadur highlighted the critical role of such grants, noting that the spinal centre operates with a meagre grant-in-aid from the government. He emphasized that support from organizations like IOCL under their CSR programs is vital for providing high-quality medical services to the public at minimal or negligible costs. This collaboration ensures that patients, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, can access advanced treatments without financial burden.

The grant is expected to facilitate the acquisition of state-of-the-art medical equipment, which will improve diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes for individuals with spinal injuries. This initiative underscores the growing trend of corporate entities contributing to public health infrastructure, fostering a more robust healthcare ecosystem in the region.

With this funding, the Mohali spinal centre aims to expand its services, potentially increasing its capacity to handle more cases and offer specialized care. The move aligns with broader efforts to enhance healthcare accessibility and quality in Punjab, benefiting a wide demographic of patients in need of spinal injury rehabilitation.
