MP Women Alcohol Consumption Above National Average

Bhopal: The percentage of women consuming alcohol in Madhya Pradesh is slightly higher than the national average, while alcohol consumption among men in the state remains below the national level, according to the latest National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6) report released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on May 29.

The survey found that 1.2% of women aged 15 years and above in Madhya Pradesh consume alcohol, compared to the national average of 1.1%. This figure marks an increase from the previous NFHS-5 (2019-21) survey, which reported that 1% of women in the state consumed alcohol.

In contrast, the national trend among women showed a decline. The percentage of women consuming alcohol across India was 1.3% in NFHS-5 (2019-21), which dropped to 1.1% in NFHS-6 (2023-24). This indicates that while alcohol consumption among women decreased nationally, Madhya Pradesh witnessed a marginal rise.
