A heart-wrenching incident has struck a family in Erode district, where a 41-day-old baby girl died after reportedly choking on breastmilk. The tragedy occurred on Tuesday night near Bhavanisagar, leaving the community in shock.

The infant has been identified as Krishmitha, the daughter of D Nagaraj and Saranya, residents of Paguthampalayam. The couple also has a two-year-old daughter named Krishika. Baby Krishmitha was born on November 27, 2025, and had been suffering from cold and cough for the preceding two weeks, for which she had been taken to a private hospital.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy
According to police reports, on the fateful Tuesday night, Saranya breastfed Krishmitha around 8:30 PM and then put the baby to sleep beside her. Later, at approximately 11:30 PM, when Saranya woke up, she made the horrifying discovery that her infant was not breathing.
The parents immediately acted, rushing the unresponsive baby to a private hospital in Sathyamangalam. Despite their desperate efforts, the attending doctors confirmed that the child had already passed away. The preliminary assessment pointed towards choking on breastmilk as the cause of this sudden infant death.
