Panchkula Temple Langar Halts Amid Global LPG Crisis, Devotees Left Without Meals
The sacred community kitchen, known as langar, at the revered Mata Mansa Devi Temple in Panchkula has come to a complete standstill for the past three consecutive days. This unprecedented halt is directly attributed to a severe and critical shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, leaving hundreds of visiting devotees without the customary free meals that are a cornerstone of the temple's hospitality.
Nationwide Supply Disruption Linked to International Tensions
The langar hall, which is meticulously operated by the Shri Mata Mansa Devi Bhandara Committee Charitable Trust, was forced to cease all cooking activities as its supply of commercial gas cylinders completely dried up. Consequently, numerous pilgrims visiting the holy shrine had to return without receiving the traditional langar, causing significant inconvenience and disappointment.
Officials have clarified that this acute LPG shortage is not an isolated incident but part of a much larger, nationwide supply disruption. Satpal Sharma, the Chairman of the Mata Mansa Devi Shrine Board and the Deputy Commissioner of Panchkula, explicitly linked the crisis to escalating global tensions. "This is a nationwide crisis due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the US and Israel, which has severely disrupted LPG supply chains. We are making concerted efforts to restore the kitchen services at the shrine at the earliest possible opportunity," he stated authoritatively.
Charitable Services Paralyzed and Contingency Plans Formulated
Chairman Sharma further elaborated that the temple's fleet of free food vans, which typically distribute nutritious meals to impoverished and needy individuals at various locations across the region, have also been immobilized. These vehicles remain parked within the temple premises as the gas shortage has crippled their operational capabilities.
Gian Chand Gupta, a senior BJP leader and former Speaker of the Haryana Assembly, confirmed that active efforts are underway to resolve this pressing issue. "We have formally requested the Deputy Commissioner to make all necessary arrangements to restart the kitchen at the shrine without delay. Simultaneously, we are exploring every avenue to arrange LPG cylinders for the shrine board to alleviate this crisis," Gupta affirmed.
Sanjay Kumar, the manager of the Shri Mata Mansa Devi Bhandara Committee Charitable Trust, provided a detailed confirmation of the suspension. "Due to the severe and unanticipated shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, the bhandara was stopped for the past three days. However, intensive efforts are being made to resume the langar from tomorrow, keeping the utmost convenience of the devotees in mind," he explained.
Alternative Cooking Methods and Ripple Effects on Local Market
Manager Sanjay Kumar also revealed a contingency plan should the LPG supply not resume immediately. The committee is prepared to temporarily shift to traditional wood- or coal-fired furnaces. "In such an emergency situation, a limited quantity of basic food items like kadhi-chawal or dal-chawal will be prepared and served. This ensures that devotees receive at least prasad and fundamental nourishment during their visit," he added.
This development has profoundly impacted the multitude of pilgrims who frequent the shrine, as the langar is one of the primary facilities heavily relied upon by devotees for sustenance during their spiritual journeys.
Surge in Demand for Electric Cooking Appliances
The widespread LPG shortage has triggered an unexpected and sudden surge in demand for electric cooking appliances across Panchkula and its neighboring areas. Retail shops specializing in kitchen appliances reported exceptionally heavy customer footfall throughout the day, with many essential items selling out completely by evening.
Narinder Singla, a local shopkeeper, described the unprecedented sales activity. "We witnessed record-breaking sales today. Induction cooktops, rice cookers, and electric kettles were in colossal demand, and by evening, almost all such appliances were completely sold out from our inventory," he reported.
Veena Jain, a local homemaker, shared her personal experience, highlighting the practical challenges faced by residents. "We exhausted our domestic LPG cylinder, and the online booking system was utterly unresponsive. This forced us to immediately purchase an induction cooktop and a rice cooker to ensure we can continue preparing meals at home for our family," she explained, underscoring the crisis's direct impact on daily life.
