Pune Petrol Dealers Association Launches Major Health Insurance Drive for Workers
The Petrol Dealers Association (PDA) in Pune has officially launched a comprehensive initiative to facilitate Ayushman Bharat health cards for petrol pump employees throughout the district. This ambitious campaign aims to provide crucial health insurance coverage to approximately 13,000 workers during its initial implementation phase.
Official Launch at Annual General Meeting
The announcement was formally made during the association's annual general meeting (AGM), where 11 Ayushman Bharat cards were symbolically distributed to mark the commencement of this significant welfare program. The Ayushman Bharat scheme, which operates under the central government's Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), offers eligible families substantial annual health insurance coverage of up to Rs5 lakh.
High-Profile Attendance and Support
The launch event witnessed participation from several prominent political figures and officials, including Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, Member of Parliament Shrirang Barne, and former Pune Mayor Manjushree Nagpure. Representatives from both state and district petrol dealers' associations were also present, demonstrating broad institutional support for this initiative.
Addressing Healthcare Needs of Petrol Pump Staff
Association office-bearers emphasized that this program is specifically designed to create a vital safety net for petrol pump employees, many of whom belong to lower-income categories and face significant healthcare accessibility challenges. The Petrol Dealers Association currently represents approximately 900 petrol dealers spread across Pune district, giving the initiative substantial reach and organizational backing.
Implementation Strategy and Leadership Commitment
Dhruv Ruparel, President of the Petrol Dealers Association in Pune, outlined the association's implementation approach, stating that the organization will collaborate closely with individual dealers to identify eligible employees and streamline the registration process. "Our primary objective is to guarantee that every eligible worker at our petrol pumps gains access to this essential government health insurance scheme," Ruparel declared during the announcement.
The association has committed to providing comprehensive support throughout the enrollment process, ensuring that administrative hurdles do not prevent qualified employees from obtaining their health cards. This initiative represents one of the most substantial private-sector collaborations with the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the region, potentially serving as a model for similar efforts in other districts and industries.
