Punjab Health Minister Urges Immediate Health Card Enrollment for Free Treatment Benefits
In a significant push to enhance healthcare accessibility, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh has made an urgent appeal to residents across the state to complete their health card registrations at the earliest opportunity. This initiative is part of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, a flagship program that provides comprehensive free medical treatment coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh per family.
Government Officials to Lead by Example
During a high-level review meeting held at the District Administrative Complex in Patiala, Dr Balbir Singh emphasized that all government officials and employees must enroll themselves first to set a powerful example for the general public. The minister chaired this meeting to assess ongoing development projects within the Patiala Rural constituency, with key officials including Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia, ADC Damanjit Singh Mann, and representatives from multiple departments in attendance.
Focus on Student Families and Awareness Campaigns
Highlighting the educational landscape, Dr Balbir Singh noted that nearly one lakh students are enrolled in senior secondary schools throughout the district. He issued a directive to teachers, instructing them to not only obtain their own health cards but also actively motivate parents of students to do the same. This strategy aims to ensure maximum family participation and benefit from the healthcare scheme.
The minister specifically tasked officials, particularly from the education department, with launching extensive awareness campaigns about the health scheme as well as the "Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Scheme." This dual effort is designed to guarantee that no eligible beneficiary is overlooked. Under the latter scheme, women from the general category will receive Rs 1,000 directly into their bank accounts, while those from SC/ST categories will get Rs 1,500, with registration set to commence shortly.
Comprehensive Review of Infrastructure and Environmental Projects
Beyond healthcare, the meeting encompassed a thorough evaluation of school infrastructure and facilities. Key areas examined included the condition of boundary walls, the availability of clean drinking water, and sheds designated for the preparation of mid-day meals. Dr Balbir Singh underscored the importance of these basic amenities for student welfare and educational outcomes.
Addressing environmental health concerns, the minister instructed the Panchayati Raj Department to formulate a detailed plan for the cleaning and rejuvenation of village ponds. He pointed out that stagnant and contaminated water poses a significant risk for disease spread, making this initiative critical for public health.
In preparation for the upcoming monsoon season, Dr Balbir Singh directed the drainage department to undertake cleaning and deepening operations of the Badi Nadi up to Dakala. This proactive measure is intended to enhance water flow capacity and mitigate potential flood threats to Patiala, safeguarding both property and lives.
Broader Development Initiatives Under Scrutiny
The review extended to various other development works, reflecting a holistic approach to regional improvement. Projects discussed included the establishment of Aam Aadmi Clinics in villages, the provision of canal water supply for agricultural purposes, the development of model playgrounds, and the construction of link roads.
