A 22-year-old youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Punjab's Mohali district, with police suspecting a drug overdose. The incident took place in the Kharar area, where the body was discovered in a room. The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of the same locality.
Details of the Incident
According to police officials, the body was found on Tuesday morning after neighbors reported a foul smell emanating from the room. The door was locked from inside, and when the police broke it open, they found Gurpreet lying on the bed. Preliminary investigations suggest that he might have died due to a drug overdose, as empty vials and syringes were recovered from the spot.
The police have sent the body for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Family's Reaction
The family of the deceased has alleged foul play and demanded a thorough probe. They claim that Gurpreet was not into drugs and that someone might have forced him to consume them. The police, however, are waiting for the post-mortem report before reaching any conclusion.
This incident has once again highlighted the growing drug menace in Punjab, where many young lives have been lost to substance abuse. Authorities have been taking steps to curb the supply of drugs, but the problem persists.
