Nagpur: A tragic incident unfolded in the Venkatesh Nagar area of Nagpur on the morning of May 1, when a 52-year-old vocational teacher and her 29-year-old daughter were discovered hanging inside their apartment. The deceased have been identified as Sangeeta Dhabale and her daughter Akanksha Brahme.
Background of the Incident
Akanksha had reportedly been in a state of depression following the loss of her newborn baby two months prior. Police recovered two suicide notes from the scene, in which both women explicitly stated that they were ending their lives of their own free will and that no one else was responsible for their deaths.
Family and Neighbors React
Sources indicate that friends and family members of the deceased had been demanding action against Akanksha's husband, Lokesh Brahme, aged 30, on charges of abetment. Neighbors informed the police that Akanksha had been living with her mother for two months after giving birth.
Discovery of the Bodies
According to police reports, the incident came to light around 7 am when Lokesh arrived at the residence to check on his wife and mother-in-law, who had not responded for the entire night. He knocked on the door but received no answer. Lokesh, who works as an engineer, then peered through a window and saw both women hanging inside.
He immediately alerted neighbors and relatives, who broke open the door, brought down the bodies, and called the police. Sources added that Lokesh was also manhandled by Akanksha's relatives at the scene.
Police Investigation
Sub-inspector Govind Dalvi of Nandanvan police station arrived at the spot along with other officers. An officer stated, "The door was locked from inside. Two handwritten notes were recovered. In the first note, Akanksha wrote that she and her mother Sangeeta were hanging themselves of their own free will. She mentioned her husband Lokesh and father-in-law and requested that her last journey begin from Venkatesh Nagar and her ashes be immersed in Ramtek."
The second note, written by Sangeeta, also declared that she was taking the extreme step voluntarily and held no one responsible.
Legal Proceedings
Senior police inspector and control room officials were immediately informed. On their instructions, the bodies were sent to GMCH for post-mortem examination. Police have registered the case as an unnatural death and are investigating the exact reasons behind the suicides. Preliminary inquiries suggest possible family or health-related issues, though the suicide notes clearly state that no external pressure was involved. Further investigation is underway to understand the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.
