Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Lives of Three Young Children in Andhra Pradesh

In a heartbreaking incident, three children, all below the age of 12, drowned in the Matsyagedda River near Lakaiputtu in Pedabayalu mandal of Alluri Sitharama Raju district, Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday evening. This devastating event has sent shockwaves through the local community and highlights the dangers of water bodies during the summer season.

Details of the Fatal Incident

The deceased have been identified as Koda Pradeep, J Harshit, and Pangi Srinu alias Bablu, all residents of Panneda village in Pedabayalu mandal. According to reports, five children from Panneda village went to the Matsyagedda River on Sunday afternoon for a recreational splash. After spending some time, four of them decided to fish and ventured deeper into the waters.

Tragically, they were caught in a mire and drowned. One child managed to swim to safety and immediately alerted the local villagers. Despite swift efforts by the locals to rescue the children, their attempts proved futile. The villagers retrieved the bodies from the water and informed the police, who have since reached the spot and initiated an investigation.

Eerily Similar Tragedy Strikes the Same District

This incident comes just days after an eerily similar tragedy in the same district. Three girls, all below 17 years of age, from Jambuvalasa village of Hukumpeta mandal, drowned after losing their footing and slipping deeper while splashing in the Mulagummi waterfall of Hukumpeta mandal. The back-to-back incidents have left the district reeling and raised serious concerns about water safety.

Police Warning and Safety Appeal

The police have emphasized that water bodies in parts of the district are deceptively risky, especially for those unfamiliar with the terrain or lacking swimming skills. Slippery rocks and sudden drops in water depth often increase the danger for visitors. As summer fun turns fatal at these locations, the police have issued a strong appeal to parents to closely monitor their children's activities during the hot months.

The tragic loss has devastated the villagers of Panneda, underscoring the urgent need for increased awareness and preventive measures around water safety in rural and scenic areas.
