A tragic incident in Jeetpur Khas village under the Nangal Soti police station area of Bijnor district has claimed the life of a two-year-old boy, while six others fell ill after consuming stale rasgullas. The sweets were brought home from a wedding ceremony five days earlier by 65-year-old Sudha Devi.
Incident Details
According to family members, Sudha Devi had attended a wedding and brought the rasgullas home. She later shared them with relatives and neighbours. Soon after consuming the sweets, seven individuals began experiencing severe stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea.
The affected individuals included two-year-old Dev Kumar, six-year-old Kartik, four-year-old Ritik, four-year-old Pallavi, and neighbours Sandeep, his wife Neetu, and their 12-year-old son Vansh. All were rushed to a private hospital in the village for treatment.
Medical Outcome
During treatment, young Dev Kumar succumbed to the poisoning. Pallavi remained under medical observation, while the condition of the other five patients has reportedly improved. Medical staff confirmed that the symptoms were consistent with food poisoning from spoiled dairy products.
Police Investigation
Circle Officer Akanksha Gautam stated, “A joint team of the police and health department has launched an investigation into the incident. Further legal action will be taken after a complaint is received and the inquiry report is submitted.”
The authorities are examining the remaining rasgullas for contamination and have collected samples for laboratory analysis. Local health officials have also been alerted to monitor for similar cases in the area.
Community Response
The incident has sparked concern among villagers about food safety, especially during wedding season when leftover sweets are often distributed. Health experts advise against consuming perishable items left unrefrigerated for extended periods.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers of consuming stale food, particularly dairy-based sweets that can harbor harmful bacteria if not stored properly.
