Mumbai: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai police arrested two men from Uttarakhand for allegedly possessing heroin valued at Rs 3.8 crore. The arrest was made in the western suburbs of Mumbai, officials confirmed on Monday.
Details of the Operation
Acting on a tip-off, the ANC’s Kandivli unit conducted a raid on an apartment in the Versova area of Andheri. During the search, law enforcement officials discovered 765 grams of heroin concealed within the premises. The accused were identified as Arman Ayub Malik (32), a resident of Dehradun, and Danish Bhura Ali (23), a native of Haridwar.
Role in the Drug Syndicate
Deputy Commissioner of Police Navnath Dhavale stated that the duo served as couriers for a large drug syndicate operating out of north India. They were allegedly paid a monthly salary of Rs 25,000 by the syndicate to distribute and supply narcotics. The accused had reportedly visited Mumbai multiple times in the past to deliver drugs to their clients.
Legal Action and Investigation
The two individuals have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police are currently investigating the supply and distribution networks of the interstate syndicate. This operation marks the second successful seizure by the ANC’s Kandivali unit in the last ten days, following an earlier confiscation of 508 grams of heroin.
The authorities are intensifying efforts to dismantle the drug network and prevent further trafficking activities in the region.
