Vadodara Municipal Corporation Launches Extensive Paneer Quality Inspection Drive
In a significant move to ensure food safety standards, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has conducted a comprehensive inspection campaign targeting paneer quality across the city. Over the past week, food safety officers from the civic body carried out rigorous checks at 264 food business operators, spanning manufacturers, restaurants, and street food vendors.
Targeted Inspection of High-Risk Areas
VMC officials stated that the drive was specifically designed to verify the quality of paneer being sold and served to consumers. Teams focused their efforts on areas with a high concentration of eateries that were suspected of using paneer analogue—a substitute product—and also extended inspections to dairy units to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Comprehensive Coverage of Food Establishments
The inspection campaign was remarkably thorough, covering a diverse range of food establishments:
- 11 paneer manufacturers
- 165 restaurants
- 28 dhabas
- 46 street food vendors
- 24 other food-related establishments
During these checks, officers collected samples of both raw paneer and cooked dishes containing paneer to assess their quality and safety standards.
Laboratory Testing and Enforcement Actions
Paneer samples from nine different units have been sent to the VMC's public health laboratory for detailed testing and analysis. In a notable enforcement action, officials seized 17.4 kilograms of paneer from one manufacturing unit that raised concerns during the inspection.
Sources within the municipal corporation revealed that if the laboratory tests determine that the seized paneer lot fails to meet quality standards, the entire quantity will be destroyed. Furthermore, appropriate legal action will be initiated against the manufacturer responsible for producing substandard paneer.
This proactive campaign underscores the VMC's commitment to protecting public health through stringent food safety measures. The initiative aims to deter the use of adulterated or low-quality paneer in the city's food supply chain, ensuring that consumers receive safe and genuine products.
