In a recent interview with Bustle, the actress and producer revealed that her decision to lose weight was driven by health concerns and the realization that she needs to ‘live at least 20 more years’ for her children. “Do I wake up every day being like, ‘I look amazing, and I’m so gorgeous’? No, unsurprisingly, but I truly feel so healthy,” Kaling said.
The ‘Late Night’ actress also explained how her reasons for weight loss have evolved over time. “When I was younger, I would want to lose weight for vanity reasons. Now I want to lose weight, or have lost weight, because I want to stave off things like diabetes. I had it on both sides of my family, and trying to avoid those kinds of things will, I think, help my longevity, and that’s my goal.”

As Mindy Kaling has lost a significant amount of weight over the past few years, every photo she shares on social media attracts a flood of comments about her body and how she achieved it. According to the actress, the right diet, meal portions, and exercises such as running, hiking, and strength training have been instrumental in her transformation.

You have an idea of what they were like when you grew attached to them, and it made them endear themselves to you,” she says. “Of course, it’s never a joy to be scrutinised, but I truly understand it, as someone who consumes pop culture.”
The actress has spoken publicly about prioritizing health and fitness over appearance. In a 2023 interview with PEOPLE, she expressed confidence in her body after adopting healthier habits. “I’m feeling really confident in my body these days, which is not something that I’ve been able to say for my whole life, unfortunately. I feel great.”
She revealed that her workouts include running or hiking for 20 miles a week, along with weight training and portion control when it comes to food. “The truth is that I spend so much time and energy trying to be healthy,” she said.
