In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure in Tamil Nadu, the newly constructed 110 crore building at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy is set to become operational within the next two to three weeks. Health Minister Ma Subramanian made this announcement on Saturday, highlighting the state's commitment to enhancing medical services.
Advanced Medical Facilities to Be Unveiled
Speaking to reporters, Minister Subramanian revealed that the new block will not only open its doors soon but will also feature advanced medical facilities. Among these is a state-of-the-art PET scan unit, which is expected to significantly improve diagnostic capabilities for patients in the region. This addition underscores the government's focus on integrating modern technology into public healthcare.
Statewide Healthcare Inaugurations Planned
The minister further announced that Chief Minister M K Stalin will inaugurate various new medical buildings and equipment worth 360 crore across Tamil Nadu on February 6. As part of this initiative, seven district headquarters government hospitals will be inaugurated on the same day. Additionally, new medical buildings and primary health centres built under this scheme will also be unveiled, marking a major step in expanding healthcare access statewide.
Tamil Nadu's Pioneering Health Initiatives
Highlighting key healthcare achievements, Subramanian noted that Tamil Nadu has become the first state in India to roll out HPV vaccination for 14-year-old girls. This proactive measure aims to prevent cervical cancer and demonstrates the state's leadership in public health policy.
Future Projects and Ongoing Camps
Looking ahead, the minister shared plans for a dedicated children's speciality hospital to be constructed at Guindy, with work expected to be completed within one-and-a-half years. This project is part of broader efforts to specialize pediatric care.
Referring to the ‘Nalam Kaakkum Stalin' health camps, Subramanian reported that 1,076 of the proposed 1,256 camps have already been held, benefiting 14.16 lakh people across the state. In Trichy district alone, more than 54,000 individuals have benefited from 35 camps so far, showcasing the widespread impact of these community health initiatives.
