AICTS Pune Commemorates World TB Day with Comprehensive Awareness Initiative
The Army Institute of Cardiothoracic Sciences (AICTS) in Pune marked World TB Day on Tuesday with a dedicated program aimed at elevating public awareness and reinforcing tuberculosis control measures nationwide. The event, chaired by Maj Gen S Radhakrishnan, Commandant of AICTS, underscored the institute's pivotal role as a referral center for managing tuberculosis, particularly complex drug-resistant cases among military personnel.
Expert Sessions and Patient-Led Awareness
The proceedings began with an opening address by Col Manu Chopra, head of the department of respiratory medicine, who set the tone for the day's activities. This was followed by in-depth expert sessions focusing on latent tuberculosis, highlighting the critical importance of early detection and advanced management protocols to combat the disease effectively.
A standout feature of the event was a patient-led play, which creatively used real-life experiences to disseminate awareness about tuberculosis and its treatment options. This innovative approach provided a personal touch, helping to destigmatize the disease and promote understanding among attendees.
National TB Quiz and Guideline Updates
In alignment with its annual tradition, AICTS hosted the Col SC Tiwari Memorial Online National TB Quiz, attracting participation from over 500 medical students across India. This competition fostered engagement and knowledge-sharing among future healthcare professionals.
Dr. Swarna Ramteke delivered an update on the latest national TB guidelines and diagnostic advancements, ensuring that participants were informed about current best practices and technological progress in tuberculosis care.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening tuberculosis control efforts, leveraging AICTS's expertise to address both common and drug-resistant cases, thereby contributing to public health initiatives in India.
