Andhra Pradesh Government Greenlights Major Recruitment Drive for New Medical College
The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a significant step forward in strengthening its healthcare infrastructure by approving the recruitment of 520 new positions for the upcoming Piduguralla Medical College. This development comes as the state prepares to inaugurate the institution and launch its undergraduate MBBS program with 100 seats starting from the 2026-27 academic year.
Comprehensive Staffing Plan to Meet NMC Requirements
According to the National Medical Commission (NMC) norms, the medical college requires approximately 700 personnel, including both medical professionals and support staff. The government's recruitment strategy involves filling about 180 positions through transfers, promotions, and redeployment of existing staff, while the remaining 520 posts will be filled through fresh appointments across 45 different categories.
The recruitment encompasses a wide range of positions including:
- Professors
- Associate Professors
- Assistant Professors
- Various supporting staff members
Minister Sets Aggressive Deadlines for Completion
During a virtual review meeting held on Monday, Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav issued clear directives to officials regarding project timelines. He instructed that all construction works must be completed by May 15, 2024. This comprehensive construction includes not only the medical college building itself but also the teaching hospital, nursing college, and student hostels.
The minister also established an April-end deadline for completing the recruitment process for all staff required to commence academic activities in the 2026-27 academic year, emphasizing the government's commitment to timely implementation.
Project Details and Funding Structure
The Piduguralla Medical College is being developed under a centrally sponsored scheme, with the central government sanctioning Rs 195 crore toward the project. The total project cost is estimated at Rs 450 crore, with construction currently underway on a spacious 47-acre campus designed to accommodate all necessary facilities for medical education and healthcare services.
This initiative represents a substantial investment in Andhra Pradesh's medical education infrastructure and is expected to significantly enhance healthcare access in the region while creating numerous employment opportunities for medical professionals and support staff.
