Andhra Pradesh Network Hospitals Temporarily Suspend Agitation Following Government Dues Assurance
The Andhra Pradesh Speciality Hospitals Association (ASHA) has announced a temporary withdrawal of its ongoing strike by network hospitals across the state. This decision comes after receiving concrete assurances from the State Government regarding the clearance of substantial pending dues under the crucial NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme.
Government Commits to Releasing Rs 1,000 Crore Within 10 Days
ASHA State President Dr. K. Vijay Kumar revealed that the government has made a firm commitment to release approximately Rs 1,000 crore within the next ten days. This significant amount represents outstanding payments owed to network hospitals that have been providing essential healthcare services under the scheme.
Furthermore, the government has expressed its willingness to clear the remaining Rs 1,000 crore during the second quarter of the current financial year, bringing the total commitment to approximately Rs 2,000 crore in pending dues that will be settled.
High-Level Meeting Addresses Implementation and Payment Concerns
A crucial high-level meeting was convened on Tuesday to deliberate on the implementation of the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme and the settlement of outstanding dues. The meeting was chaired by Secretary (Medical and Health) Saurabh Gaur and attended by key government officials including Secretary (Finance) Ronald Rose and other senior finance department representatives, alongside ASHA representatives.
During the extensive discussions, the government provided additional assurances beyond the immediate dues clearance:
- Monthly payments ranging between Rs 150 crore and Rs 170 crore will be made regularly to hospitals
- Collaboration with ASHA representatives, stakeholders, and officials to establish procedural frameworks for implementing the proposed Universal Health Scheme (UHS)
- Formation of a dedicated committee to address ongoing concerns and ensure smoother implementation
Temporary Resolution with Cautious Optimism
While expressing satisfaction with the government's assurances, Dr. Vijay Kumar emphasized that the decision to call off the agitation is only temporary. "We have learned from past experiences," he noted, highlighting the association's cautious approach.
The ASHA president stressed that the responsibility now lies squarely with the government to ensure timely disbursal of funds as promised. "The onus is on the administration to honor these commitments and prevent further disruptions to healthcare services," Dr. Vijay Kumar stated, indicating that the association remains vigilant about implementation.
This development comes as a relief to patients across Andhra Pradesh who depend on the NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme for affordable healthcare access. The temporary resolution allows network hospitals to resume normal operations while monitoring the government's follow-through on its financial commitments.
