The East Singhbhum district administration in Jamshedpur has started a new campaign called 'Ullas Mitra'. This initiative aims to gather donations from local citizens, social groups, and institutions. The collected funds will directly support epilepsy patients in the region.
Campaign Goals and Official Statements
District Collector Karn Satyarthi explained the campaign's purpose clearly. He stated that epilepsy patients need both regular medical treatment and proper nutrition to live normal lives. The 'Ullas Mitra' donations will specifically help patients from economically weaker sections of society. These funds will cover treatment costs, nutritional requirements, and provide essential social security measures.
Connection to Project Ullas
District Civil Surgeon Dr. Shair Pall provided important background information. He revealed that 'Ullas Mitra' forms part of the larger Project Ullas. The district administration originally launched Project Ullas in October 2025. This comprehensive project focuses on screening, diagnosing, identifying, and treating people suffering from epilepsy across the district.
Dr. Pall made a significant observation about government health programs. He noted that currently no specific funds are allocated for epilepsy patients under existing government health schemes. This funding gap makes the 'Ullas Mitra' campaign particularly crucial for addressing patient needs.
Screening Camp Results and Future Plans
The administration has already conducted several health camps under Project Ullas. A screening camp took place at Patamda block on October 10, 2025. Over the past three months, two major health camps operated in Patamda and Ghatsila areas.
The screening results revealed important data about epilepsy prevalence in the region:
- Total people screened at both camps: 1,560 individuals
- Number diagnosed with epilepsy: 967 people
These numbers demonstrate the significant need for epilepsy care in East Singhbhum district. The administration has scheduled another screening camp for February 2. This next camp will be held at the Chakulia Community Health Center, continuing the effort to identify and help epilepsy patients throughout the region.
The 'Ullas Mitra' campaign represents a community-driven approach to healthcare. By involving local residents and organizations in donation efforts, the district administration hopes to create sustainable support for epilepsy patients who currently lack adequate resources for their medical and nutritional needs.
