NMC Official Calls on New Doctors to Embrace Technological Change and Social Responsibility
MK Ramesh, President of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board under the National Medical Commission, delivered a compelling address to young medical graduates on Saturday, urging them to embrace change, adapt to rapid technological advancements, and steadfastly uphold their profound responsibility to society as they embark on their professional journeys.
Graduation Day Address at JSS Medical College
Delivering the keynote speech at the JSS Medical College Graduation Day ceremony, Ramesh emphasized that earning a medical degree represents far more than the mere completion of academic studies. He described it as the commencement of a lifelong, unwavering commitment to patient care, ethical service, and continuous learning.
A total of 195 MBBS graduates received their degrees during the ceremony. The event saw Dr Purna Bansal emerge as the standout achiever, securing the prestigious Best Outgoing Student award along with an impressive haul of seven gold medals and six separate cash awards, earning her the title of the "golden girl" of the graduating class.
The Demands of Medical Education and Practice
Ramesh highlighted the uniquely demanding nature of obtaining a medical degree. He noted that it requires not only the mastery of complex theoretical knowledge but also the acquisition of vital practical experience through rigorous, hands-on clinical training in hospital environments.
"Such intensive training is essential," he stated, "as it prepares young doctors to confidently and compassionately face real-life medical challenges and respond effectively to critical, high-pressure situations at the bedside."
Technology as a Tool in Transforming Healthcare
Emphasizing his core message that "change is the only constant in life," Ramesh drew attention to how rapid technological developments are fundamentally transforming the global healthcare sector. He specifically pointed to innovations such as:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) in diagnostics and treatment planning
- The expansion of telemedicine services
- The digitization of health records and patient data management
He explained that these tools are actively reshaping medical practice and significantly improving the accessibility and efficiency of healthcare services for patients. However, he issued a crucial caution to the new graduates, advising them to use technology as a supportive tool to enhance their practice, rather than becoming overly dependent on it at the expense of core clinical skills and the human touch in patient care.

The graduation ceremony also honored several other high-achieving students:
- Dr Prakhar Gupta was awarded two gold medals and a cash award.
- Dr Sandra Anna Sam received one gold medal and two cash awards.
- Dr Yashika Sharma was honored with a gold medal.
