Rajasthan Health Minister Inaugurates Advanced Dermatology Institute and Launches Raj-Mamta Mental Health Program

In a significant move to bolster healthcare infrastructure, Rajasthan Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar inaugurated a state-of-the-art Dermatology Institute at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College in Jaipur on Tuesday. Simultaneously, he launched the Raj-Mamta programme, a comprehensive mental health initiative funded under this year's budget provisions.

Raj-Mamta: A Holistic Approach to Mental Wellness

Addressing the rising concerns over stress and mental health issues, Minister Khimsar emphasized that the Raj-Mamta programme is designed to boost awareness and treatment accessibility. The programme includes the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for mental health at SMS Hospital, which will serve as a hub for advanced care and research.

Key components of Raj-Mamta:

  • District-level mental health care cells staffed with psychiatrists and psychological counsellors.
  • Stress management workshops tailored for various demographics.
  • Awareness drives in educational institutions to educate students and staff.
  • Counselling sessions in schools to provide early intervention and support.

This initiative aims to create a robust support system, ensuring mental health services reach even the most remote areas of the state.

Advanced Dermatology Institute: Cutting-Edge Care at Affordable Costs

The newly inaugurated Dermatology Institute at SMS Medical College is equipped with advanced machinery, including AI-based technology, to revolutionize the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases. Minister Khimsar highlighted that this facility will offer high-quality care at a lower cost compared to private hospitals, making specialized dermatological services more accessible to the public.

"The integration of AI technology will enhance accuracy in diagnoses and personalize treatment plans, setting a new standard in dermatological care," Khimsar stated during the inauguration.

Comprehensive Health Sector Reforms and Directives

Beyond the new initiatives, Minister Khimsar issued several directives to optimize healthcare delivery across Rajasthan:

  1. Staffing Rationalization: Officials have been instructed to assess vacant posts based on outpatient (OPD) and inpatient (IPD) loads. A review of village sub-health centres must be completed within two days to ensure that staffing is efficient, preventing scenarios where two doctors are posted against one position.
  2. Infrastructure Upgrades: Installation of CCTV cameras at all health centres to enhance security and monitoring.
  3. Operational Improvements: Emphasis on improved hospital cleanliness, repairs of dilapidated buildings, and adequate preparedness for heat-wave conditions to ensure patient safety and comfort.

Enhanced Monitoring and Focus Areas

Health department officials outlined a series of measures to tighten monitoring and improve service delivery:

  • Daily reviews through a self-monitoring system to track basic service parameters.
  • Conducting mock drills for emergencies to enhance readiness.
  • Strengthening focus on non-communicable diseases and geriatric care to address evolving health needs.

Additionally, work will be reviewed on critical programs such as TB-Free India, vaccination drives, e-Upkaran (digital infrastructure), biomedical waste management, and hospital land allotment to ensure compliance and efficiency.

Targeted Health Campaigns and Goals

Officials stressed the importance of achieving specific health targets:

  • Meeting HPV vaccination goals to prevent cervical cancer.
  • Maintaining consistent availability of medicines across facilities.
  • Ensuring proper use of medical equipment to maximize resource utility.
  • Organizing TB screening camps in high-risk villages to curb the spread of tuberculosis.

These efforts underscore Rajasthan's commitment to creating a more resilient and accessible healthcare system, addressing both immediate and long-term health challenges.
