Rajkot to Get First Dedicated Palliative Cancer Care Centre in Saurashtra Region
In a landmark development for healthcare in western Gujarat, the Cancer Care Foundation of Rajkot has announced plans to establish a specialized Palliative Cancer Care Centre. This initiative marks a significant milestone for the Saurashtra region, addressing a critical gap in medical services for patients with advanced cancer.
Stone-Laying Ceremony Scheduled for February 1
The foundation stone for the proposed "Pritiben Prabhudasbhai Parekh Palliative Cancer Care Centre" will be laid on February 1 at Amreli village on Kalawad Road, located on the outskirts of Rajkot. This ceremony will formally commence the construction of what promises to be a transformative healthcare facility.
Addressing a Critical Healthcare Gap
Currently, the entire Saurashtra region lacks any dedicated palliative care hospital specifically for cancer patients. This absence has forced countless patients and their families to seek support outside the area, often at great personal and financial cost.
"The upcoming centre aims to bridge this critical gap by providing specialized care focused on pain relief, comfort, and emotional well-being for patients with life-limiting illnesses," stated Ashwin Solanki, president of the Cancer Care Foundation.
Comprehensive and Free Holistic Care
The new facility is designed as a model centre for palliative healthcare with an initial capacity of 100 beds. All services will be provided completely free of cost, ensuring accessibility for all patients in need.
The comprehensive care model will include:
- Advanced pain and symptom management
- Psychological counselling and emotional support
- Spiritual care and nutritional guidance
- Integrative therapies such as naturopathy and Ayurveda
- Yoga, meditation, and holistic wellness programs
A Symbol of Hope and Community Responsibility
Rupal Kotak, secretary of the Cancer Care Foundation, emphasized that this project represents more than just a medical facility. "This ambitious project stands as a symbol of empathy, collective responsibility, and hope for thousands of patients across Gujarat," she remarked.
The organization has consistently worked to support cancer patients through various initiatives, including awareness programs and community involvement. This new centre represents their most significant undertaking to date.
Understanding Palliative Cancer Care
A palliative cancer care centre is a specialized medical facility that provides comprehensive care for patients suffering from advanced and incurable stages of cancer. Unlike curative treatments, palliative care focuses on:
- Improving quality of life through effective pain management
- Addressing physical symptoms and discomfort
- Providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support
- Supporting patients and families during the later stages of illness
This holistic approach ensures that patients receive dignified care that addresses their complete well-being, not just their medical condition.
The establishment of this centre in Rajkot is expected to significantly enhance the healthcare landscape of Saurashtra, providing much-needed specialized support for cancer patients and their families throughout the region.
