Telangana Junior Doctors' Arrears Delay: JUDA Warns of Action

Telangana Junior Doctors Face Financial Strain as Arrears Remain Unpaid

The Junior Doctors' Association (JUDA) in Hyderabad has voiced serious concern over the ongoing delay in disbursing arrears to junior doctors across Telangana for the period spanning January to June 2025. Despite completing all necessary procedural formalities and securing departmental clearance for bills, the payments continue to be held up due to a lack of final government approval, as highlighted by the association in a recent press note issued on Tuesday.

Financial Hardship and Morale Impact

JUDA emphasized that the non-disbursement of stipends and arrears is causing significant financial hardship for junior doctors serving in government teaching hospitals. The delays are adversely affecting their morale, financial stability, and overall well-being, with the association warning that this could lead to broader implications for healthcare services.

Repeated Appeals and Government Inaction

Since June 2025, multiple representations and follow-ups have been made with the concerned authorities, yet no concrete action has been taken to resolve the issue. The prolonged delay, according to JUDA, poses serious academic and financial risks for various categories of doctors, including:

  • Post-graduate doctors from the 2021 batch, who have completed their MD and are now serving as senior residents, risk losing their legitimate arrears.
  • Doctors from the 2022 post-graduate batch, who recently transitioned into senior residency, might also be deprived of their dues if the matter remains unresolved.
  • House surgeons and super-specialty post-graduate doctors, whose arrears are yet to be cleared, face ongoing uncertainty.

Call for Immediate Government Action

JUDA has appealed to the government for immediate approval of the pending bills and prompt release of all arrears starting from January 2025. The association stressed that timely disbursal would not only alleviate financial distress but also recognize the dedicated services provided by junior doctors to public healthcare. While reiterating its commitment to constructive dialogue, JUDA cautioned that it might be compelled to take appropriate action if the issue continues to remain unresolved, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
