Thai Buddhist Leader Visits Patna Cancer Centre, Donates ICU Beds
In a significant gesture of international goodwill and spiritual support, Somdet Phra Thirayanamuni, the esteemed abbot of Wat Debsirindrawas and a prominent member of the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand, led a delegation of 20 disciples on a visit to the Buddha Cancer Medical Centre in Patna on Tuesday. The visit underscored a powerful blend of medical care and compassionate outreach.
Appreciation for Cancer Care Services
During the visit, the senior Buddhist monk expressed deep appreciation for the cancer care being provided to underprivileged patients from Bihar and Jharkhand. He praised the institution for its unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality oncology treatment to economically weaker sections of society, highlighting the centre's role in bridging healthcare gaps.
Substantial Donation and Expansion Initiatives
As part of his contribution to enhancing medical facilities, Thirayanamuni generously donated five modern ICU beds to strengthen the centre's critical care services. This donation is expected to significantly boost the centre's capacity to handle severe cases with advanced equipment.
Additionally, the monk laid the foundation stone for a new building at the Buddha Cancer Centre through traditional Buddhist chanting rituals. This ceremony marked an important step in the institution's future expansion, symbolizing growth and hope for improved healthcare infrastructure.
Spiritual Support for Patients
The monk also met nearly 50 admitted cancer patients, offering prayers and blessings for their speedy recovery. Hospital officials noted that his visit brought immense encouragement and hope to patients and their families, providing emotional solace during challenging times.

Dr. Arvind Kumar, founder director and chief medical oncologist of Buddha Cancer Centre Pvt Ltd, Patna, was present during the visit along with his team. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kumar emphasized the impact of such visits, stating, "Visits by global spiritual leaders not only uplift the morale of our medical team but also provide immense emotional support to cancer patients and their caregivers."
