Thane's First Cancer Treatment Facility Nears Operational Stage

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Sunday that the construction of Thane's first dedicated cancer treatment facility is in its final stages and will soon become operational. This significant healthcare development marks a major step forward in addressing the region's medical needs.

Strategic Location and Collaborative Effort

The facility is being developed at the existing 10-storey structure in Saket that previously served as a Covid hospital. The project represents a collaborative effort between the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), which is providing the space, Tata Memorial Hospital contributing medical expertise, and NGO JITO managing daily operations.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Cancer Hospital was conducted in July 2023 by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and seer Deepakbhai Desai, highlighting the project's importance to the community.

Advanced Construction and Comprehensive Facilities

Civic officials confirmed that "the building is at an advanced stage of construction" with modifications underway to adapt the existing structure for cancer treatment requirements. The hospital will occupy an impressive 97,000 square feet area and feature:

  • 600 beds for patient accommodation
  • Outpatient Department (OPD) services
  • Daycare treatment centers
  • Associated medical facilities

Affordable Treatment Model

One of the most significant aspects of this new facility is its commitment to accessibility. The treatment charges are expected to be comparable to those at Tata Memorial Hospital, ensuring that quality cancer care remains affordable for patients from various socioeconomic backgrounds.

This development comes as a welcome addition to Thane's healthcare infrastructure, potentially reducing the need for patients to travel to Mumbai for specialized cancer treatment. The hospital's strategic location in Saket and its comprehensive facilities position it to become a crucial healthcare hub for the region.
