Nagpur & Moradabad Perform First Reciprocal Telesurgery

In a landmark event for Indian medical science, Nagpur's Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) achieved a national first on Saturday by successfully conducting reciprocal robotic telesurgeries with a hospital in Moradabad. This groundbreaking demonstration saw surgeons in Nagpur operating on a patient in Moradabad, while simultaneously, surgeons in Moradabad performed a procedure on a patient at GMCH Nagpur.

A New Chapter in Surgical Innovation

The pioneering cross-city surgical exchange was the centerpiece of the RoboSurg'25 scientific programme, highlighting significant advancements in robotic and minimally invasive surgical technologies within India. Dean Dr. Raj Gajbhiye emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating that the flawless, real-time coordination showcased India's growing capability in a domain previously limited to only a handful of technologically advanced nations.

This was not an isolated event. The reciprocal telesurgeries formed part of a larger live relay of 10 robotic telesurgeries performed from leading medical institutions across the country, including powerhouses in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Jaipur.
