In a significant medical advancement, researchers at the Multi-Disciplinary Research Unit (MRU) of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur have successfully developed a diagnostic kit for sickle cell anemia. This innovative device has now been selected by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for presentation at the prestigious "Innovators to Industry Connect" summit scheduled for April 23 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Project Leadership and Team Composition
The groundbreaking project was spearheaded by Dr Jagannath Pal and Dr Yogita Rajput, with crucial support and guidance from MRU nodal officer Dr Manjula Beck. Their collaborative efforts have resulted in a diagnostic tool that serves dual purposes: detecting sickle cell anemia in newborns and facilitating antenatal screening for pregnant women.
