In a significant boost to rehabilitation medicine in Uttar Pradesh, a state-level workshop equipped forty physiatrists with cutting-edge skills in musculoskeletal ultrasound. The hands-on training, focused on high-resolution nerve scanning and imaging-guided procedures, was held at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) in Lucknow on Friday.
Workshop Aims to Revolutionize Diagnosis and Treatment
The day-long pre-conference workshop, titled 'MSK Ultrasound of Peripheral Nerves,' was organized at the institute's Apex Trauma Center. It was conducted under the aegis of the Awadh Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR), which is the Uttar Pradesh chapter of the national body. The event underscored how this technology is transforming early diagnosis and enabling minimally invasive treatments in rehabilitation care.
Inaugurating the program, SGPGIMS director Prof. R K Dhiman emphasized that innovations like MSK ultrasound are making it significantly easier for physiatrists to diagnose nerve injuries with greater speed and accuracy. "Such workshops are pivotal in strengthening the future of rehabilitation care across our state," he stated.
Expert Faculty Impart Advanced Skills
The workshop was designed to combine theoretical knowledge with intensive practical sessions. Dr. Siddharth Rai, the workshop convener and an Additional Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at SGPGIMS, highlighted the critical role of peripheral nerve ultrasound. He noted that it has become an indispensable tool for precise diagnosis and minimally invasive interventions. "Empowering our young physiatrists with these advanced skills will directly and positively impact patient care in both trauma and routine rehabilitation settings," Dr. Rai explained.
The resource faculty included renowned specialists Dr. Kanchan Sharma from Jaipur and Dr. Harleen Uppal from the Sports Injury Centre in New Delhi. Other senior specialists present at the event elaborated on the expanding role of imaging-guided therapies in modern physiatry. Dignitaries including Prof. Arun Srivastava, in-charge of the Apex Trauma Centre, and Prof. V S Gogia, head of PMR at Dr. RMLIMS, were also present to support the initiative.
Strengthening Rehabilitation Services Across Uttar Pradesh
The program received widespread appreciation from all participants. It is expected to have a far-reaching impact by significantly strengthening interventional rehabilitation services throughout Uttar Pradesh. By training a cadre of forty specialists in this niche skill, the workshop aims to reduce diagnostic delays, improve treatment accuracy, and promote faster recovery for patients with musculoskeletal and nerve-related ailments. This initiative marks a concrete step towards integrating advanced ultrasound technology into mainstream physical medicine and rehabilitation practice in the state.
