Financial Strain Leads to Suicide of 23-Year-Old in Gurgaon; Two Other Deaths Reported
Gurgaon: Wedding Expenses Stress Leads to Man's Suicide

A young man ended his life in Gurgaon's Palam Vihar area on Sunday night, with police investigations pointing to severe financial pressure linked to his upcoming wedding as the primary cause. This tragic incident was followed by two more reported suicides in the city on Monday, casting a spotlight on the acute mental health challenges faced by residents.

Wedding Expenses Trigger Tragedy in Palam Vihar

The deceased, identified as 23-year-old Bhura from Morena in Madhya Pradesh, lived alone in a rented accommodation in the Om Vihar locality. He worked as a confectioner and was slated to get married in March 2026. According to police officials, preliminary inquiries revealed that Bhura had been under immense stress to arrange funds for his wedding.

"He had contacted relatives and acquaintances for financial help in the days leading up to his death," a police officer stated, highlighting the desperate situation. After receiving information, a police team reached the spot and called in forensic and fingerprint experts to examine the scene. No suicide note was found. The body was sent for an autopsy at the mortuary and later handed over to his grieving family. Police have recorded statements from his relatives as part of the ongoing investigation.

A Day of Dual Tragedies Across the City

In two separate and unrelated incidents on Monday, Gurgaon was shaken by more reports of young lives lost to suicide.

In the first case, under the limits of Badshahpur police station, an 18-year-old girl named Roli, originally from Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh, was found dead at her rented residence in Begampur Khatola village on Monday afternoon. Police said the inquiry did not reveal any suspicious circumstances. Her family members informed the authorities that she had been suffering from severe mental distress for some time. After completing post-mortem formalities, her body was handed over to her family.

The second case was reported from Sector 81, under Kherki Daula police station limits. A 16-year-old boy, Shankar, hailing from Meerut in UP, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his home on Monday morning. A forensic team inspected the location but found no suicide note or evidence pointing to external involvement. His body was also sent for autopsy before being released to the family.

Investigations Underway, Police Urge for Support

Gurgaon police confirmed that investigations are ongoing in all three cases. Authorities stated that further action will be taken if any new or suspicious facts come to light during the probes.

In light of these consecutive tragedies, the police have issued an appeal to the public. They have urged families and communities to be vigilant and to seek timely counselling and professional support for individuals showing signs of emotional or mental distress. The incidents underscore a critical need for accessible mental health resources and societal support systems, particularly for young people grappling with financial pressures, academic stress, and personal crises.
