Kanpur Driver Ends Life Before Cousin's Wedding, Grief Over 3 Lost Children Cited
Kanpur man commits suicide, stress over children's deaths

In a heart-wrenching incident, a 40-year-old truck driver from Kanpur Dehat district took his own life late on Saturday night, just a day before his cousin's wedding. The man, identified as Kaleem, was a resident of Katra Mohalla in Amraudha.

A Tragedy Unfolds Amid Wedding Preparations

The family home was bustling with preparations for the wedding of Kaleem's cousin sister, Sartaj, which was scheduled for Monday. On Saturday, Kaleem's wife, Naushada, attended a pre-wedding ceremony, leaving him alone at the house. When she returned on Sunday morning, she discovered his blood-soaked body. He had reportedly slit his throat with a knife.

The shocking discovery led Naushada to become distraught, and her wails alerted neighbours and relatives who rushed to the scene. The police and a forensic team were immediately summoned to collect evidence and record statements from the family and those living nearby.

Underlying Trauma of Unbearable Loss

In her statement to the police, Naushada revealed the profound grief that had been haunting her husband. The couple had three children, all of whom died within seven to eight months of their birth. This repeated tragedy had left deep scars on Kaleem, who often discussed the immense loss with his wife.

Naushada told the authorities that the stress and depression stemming from the death of their children ultimately drove him to take the extreme step. The timing of the suicide, amidst familial celebrations, has added another layer of sorrow to the community.

Police Investigation and Official Statement

Sub-Inspector Munishwar Singh, who is investigating the case, provided details of the initial findings. "Evidence has been collected from the spot. Prima facie, suicide has been confirmed," said SI Singh. He added that the wife had submitted a written statement regarding the circumstances leading to the suicide.

The officer noted that while the initial evidence points towards suicide, the situation will become clearer after the post-mortem report is received. The police are treating this as a case of suicide driven by extreme emotional distress.
