The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has initiated a comprehensive dengue awareness drive across the city. The programme places a strong emphasis on health education, aiming to inform residents about the symptoms of dengue, available treatment options, preventive measures, and the crucial role the public plays in controlling the spread of the disease.
Focus on Public Participation
Health officials stressed that community involvement is vital for the success of the campaign. Residents are encouraged to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, such as stagnant water in containers, and to report suspected cases promptly. The drive includes door-to-door visits, distribution of informational pamphlets, and awareness sessions in schools and community centers.
Symptoms and Treatment
The campaign educates people on identifying early symptoms like high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, and rash. It also highlights the importance of seeking timely medical care, as early diagnosis can prevent complications. Treatment primarily focuses on supportive care, including hydration and rest, with no specific antiviral therapy available.
Preventive Measures
Key preventive measures promoted include using mosquito repellents, wearing long-sleeved clothing, ensuring window screens are intact, and maintaining clean surroundings. The BBMP is also intensifying fogging and larvicide spraying in high-risk areas. The drive is part of a broader strategy to reduce dengue incidence ahead of the monsoon season, when cases typically spike.
Residents are urged to cooperate with health workers and adopt these practices at home and in their neighborhoods. The BBMP has set up a helpline for reporting breeding sites and seeking information. With this initiative, the civic body aims to foster a collective effort to curb dengue transmission and safeguard public health.
