The Haryana Police Academy (HPA) in Madhuban organized a public awareness workshop on 'Mental Health and Stress Management' at the Harshvardhan Auditorium. Dr Saubhagya S. Kaushik, nodal officer at Civil Hospital, Karnal, served as the chief guest and led a meditation session for attendees.
Expert Highlights Meditation and Healthy Habits
Before her address, Dr Kaushik thanked Kala Ramachandran, Director of HPA, for organizing the programme. She emphasized that good health encompasses complete physical, mental, and social well-being. Good mental health enables individuals to make sound decisions, maintain healthy relationships, face challenges effectively, and lead a balanced life.
Dr Kaushik noted that stress has become increasingly common in today's fast-paced lifestyle, with one in every eight people suffering from stress-related issues. Major causes include academic pressure, job-related concerns, family issues, and financial difficulties.
Moderate Stress Can Be Motivational
She explained that moderate stress can act as a source of motivation and lead to positive outcomes. However, prolonged stress adversely affects both mental and physical health, resulting in insomnia, irritability, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, and reduced work efficiency.
To maintain good mental health, Dr Kaushik advised regular exercise and yoga. She also emphasized daily meditation or deep-breathing exercises, adequate sleep, a balanced and nutritious diet, quality time with family and friends, and open sharing of emotions.
Time Management and Professional Help
She stressed the need for effective time management, prioritizing tasks, and balanced use of mobile phones and social media. Dr Kaushik urged participants not to hesitate in seeking professional help from qualified mental health experts if stress or other concerns persist for a prolonged period.
