The Health Department organized a special awareness campaign to mark World Blood Donor Day at the Civil Hospital in Amritsar, encouraging voluntary blood donation.
District-Level Programme Highlights
During the district-level programme, Civil Surgeon Dr Rashmi Vij emphasized that blood donation is one of the greatest services to humanity. She noted that a single unit of blood can help save several precious lives and urged people to overcome myths and misconceptions related to blood donation.
Dr Vij highlighted the constant need for safe blood for patients suffering from serious illnesses, victims of road accidents, individuals undergoing surgeries, women during childbirth, and patients battling diseases such as thalassemia. She stressed that regular voluntary blood donation by eligible citizens is essential to meet this demand.
She also mentioned that any healthy person between the ages of 18 and 65 years can donate blood. “Voluntary blood donation is a simple act that can make a significant difference in someone’s life,” she said.
Awareness Activities
As part of the programme, officials of the Health Department and locals took a pledge to support and promote blood donation. A street play and an awareness rally were also organized to spread the message of voluntary blood donation among the masses.
The event was attended by Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Rajinder Pal Kaur, District Health Officer Dr Jaspal Singh, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Sarabjit Singh, and others.
