A seven-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a pack of stray dogs attacked him in Hastinapuram, Meerpet, on Monday night. The child, a native of Sircilla, was visiting his aunt's home and had been playing cricket with friends outside the building.
Attack Details
According to Meerpet sub-inspector G Srinivas Reddy, the incident occurred when the boy was entering the apartment building cellar after the game ended. A pack of eight dogs followed him inside and launched a brutal assault. No one was nearby to help until passers-by heard the commotion and chased the dogs away. Police could not retrieve any CCTV footage from the scene.
Injuries and Medical Response
The boy sustained multiple deep wounds on his scalp, hands, thighs, back, and abdomen, with some injuries reaching the bone. Excessive blood loss worsened his condition. He was rushed to a private hospital in LB Nagar, where he was admitted unconscious and placed on ventilator support.
Hospital authorities stated that emergency treatment began immediately. The medical team administered intravenous fluids, anti-rabies vaccines, tetanus injections, and specialized medication to prevent rabies virus spread. Additional injections were given around the wound areas.
Ongoing Treatment
A multidisciplinary team of pediatricians, general surgeons, and plastic surgeons is treating the child. Daily procedures are performed to remove damaged tissue and prevent infection. Doctors have not confirmed rabies infection but warn that symptoms could appear within 15 days, potentially leading to brain swelling and further complications.
Critical Condition
The child remains under close observation and has not fully recovered from shock. A clearer assessment of his condition is expected within the next 48 hours. The next few days are crucial for his recovery, medical experts said.
