Mayawati Slams Govt Over Indore Water Tragedy, Demands Strict Action
Mayawati on Indore Water Tragedy: Govt Negligence Fatal

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president Mayawati has issued a strong condemnation of the Indore water tragedy, holding government negligence and corruption responsible for the loss of lives. Speaking on Friday, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister called for stringent measures from both the Madhya Pradesh state government and the Centre to prevent such "shameful acts" in the future.

Mayawati's Stern Rebuke on Government Failure

Mayawati expressed deep anguish over the tragic incident in Indore, where several citizens died and many others fell ill after consuming contaminated water. She stated that the widespread anger among people, extending beyond locals to citizens across the country, is a direct result of government irresponsibility and indifference in the matter.

"The tragic and shocking news of the deaths of several citizens and the illness of many others due to drinking contaminated water in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, is widely discussed," Mayawati said, highlighting the national outcry over the incident.

Core Responsibility Betrayed by Negligence

The BSP supremo emphasised that providing clean air and water to citizens is the primary and fundamental duty of any government. However, she accused the authorities of failing in this basic obligation. "It is government negligence and corruption in ensuring basic amenities to people," she asserted, drawing a parallel with lapses in crime control and law and order.

Mayawati warned that such systemic failures are having devastating consequences. "This negligence... is turning out to be fatal and is leaving families devastated," she added, painting a grim picture of the human cost of administrative apathy.

A Call for Effective Intervention

While acknowledging that the state government must continue to take strict measures to prevent similar tragedies, Mayawati stressed that the Central government also has a critical role to play. She urged the Centre to "act effectively after taking appropriate cognisance" of the grave situation in Indore.

Labeling the entire episode as "extremely unfortunate and a matter of great concern," Mayawati's statement adds significant political weight to the growing demands for accountability and a thorough probe into the water contamination incident that has shaken Indore.
