A 20-year-old woman, a NEET aspirant, died by suicide in Delhi's Dwarka area on Wednesday. Her family has linked the incident to the uncertainty surrounding the medical entrance exam. The police have launched an investigation and stated that no suicide note was recovered from the scene.

Incident Details

The incident took place in the Sagarpur area of Dwarka. The victim, identified as Priya Singh, was found hanging in her room by her mother around 10 am. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

According to the family, Priya had been under immense stress due to the postponement of the NEET exam. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for undergraduate medical courses was originally scheduled for May but was postponed indefinitely due to administrative reasons, causing anxiety among aspirants.

Police Statement

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan said, 'The victim was a NEET aspirant. We are probing as to why she took the extreme step. No suicide note has been found during the investigation. We are also recording the statements of family members and friends.'

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the matter from all angles. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Family's Allegations

The victim's father, Rakesh Singh, alleged that the uncertainty over the exam dates led to his daughter's depression. 'She was preparing for NEET for the last two years. The constant changes in exam schedule and lack of clarity broke her spirit. She was quiet for the last few days and we thought she was studying hard, but we never imagined she would take this step,' he said.

The family has demanded a thorough investigation and action against those responsible for the exam delays.

Broader Context

This incident has once again brought to light the mental health crisis among competitive exam aspirants in India. Every year, several students succumb to the pressure of entrance exams like NEET, JEE, and others. Experts emphasize the need for counseling and support systems for students.
