Hyderabad: The Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has strongly refuted allegations circulating on social media regarding an alleged 'kidney racket' operating within the institute. In an official statement released on Friday, the hospital administration labeled these claims as false propaganda intended to damage the institution's reputation.
Official Clarification
Dr. N Beerappa, Director of NIMS, provided a detailed clarification on the matter. He stated that the hospital had received a complaint from a patient alleging that an outsourced employee had demanded money in exchange for facilitating a kidney transplant surgery. The complaint was immediately escalated to the Punjagutta police, who are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
Internal Inquiry and Action
Following a preliminary internal inquiry, the outsourced employee facing the allegations was relieved of their duties. Dr. Beerappa emphasized that strict action would be taken against any other individuals found to be involved in such activities. He assured the public that NIMS maintains high ethical standards and does not tolerate any form of malpractice.
Appeal to the Public
Dr. Beerappa urged the public not to be misled by what he described as 'misleading and malicious propaganda' being spread on social media regarding kidney transplants at NIMS. He expressed concern that certain individuals were attempting to tarnish the reputation of the premier government hospital, which serves lakhs of patients annually, for their own selfish interests.
The director reiterated that NIMS is committed to providing transparent and ethical healthcare services and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure justice is served. He called on the community to rely on official sources for accurate information and to refrain from sharing unverified claims.
