NMC Issues Notices to 21 Hospitals for Norm Violations

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued improvement notices to 21 private hospitals across the city for failing to comply with mandatory norms, including electrical safety audits, fire safety requirements and other regulatory conditions. The hospitals have been given one week to rectify the violations.

“This is an improvement notice issued to 21 private hospitals found to be non-compliant with norms related to electrical audits, fire safety and other mandatory requirements that must be fulfilled periodically. We have given them an ultimatum of one week to comply, failing which strict action will be initiated. This may include cancellation of licences if the hospitals continue to ignore the directives,” said a senior official from the NMC’s health and medical department.

According to records, 625 registered private hospitals and nursing homes operate within its jurisdiction. Under existing regulations, these establishments must renew their licences every three years, while the NMC conducts inspections twice a year to ensure compliance with prescribed norms.

Last month, the NMC carried out a citywide inspection drive to verify licence renewals and assess adherence to statutory standards. Inspection teams scrutinised registration and licensing documents, mandatory certificates, staffing and bed strength details, display of rate cards and other operational requirements. The exercise revealed violations at 21 hospitals. More than 100 personnel from the NMC health department, along with staff from the civic body’s 30 urban primary health centres (UPHCs), were deployed for the inspections.

Civic officials said the drive is part of ongoing efforts to improve patient safety, ensure quality healthcare services and enhance transparency in private medical establishments. Similar inspections will now be conducted every six months to ensure continued compliance with regulations.
