Noida, Greater Noida Launch Water Safety Audit After Indore Deaths
Noida, Greater Noida order water safety audit

In a decisive move to prevent a public health crisis, the authorities in Noida and Greater Noida have launched comprehensive technical audits of their entire drinking water supply networks. This urgent action comes days after several fatalities were reported due to water contamination in Indore, highlighting a critical need for preventive measures.

High-Level Meetings Trigger Immediate Action

The Noida Authority's response was swift. At a high-level meeting chaired by CEO Lokesh M on Friday, public health and civic infrastructure were thoroughly reviewed. The meeting, which focused on water supply and sanitation, resulted in strict directives to officials.

A dedicated committee of senior water department officials has been formed to execute the audit. "We have ordered a thorough technical audit of the water supply system, including pipelines, reservoirs and water ATMs, to ensure that residents receive safe and clean drinking water," stated CEO Lokesh M. He emphasized that water samples would be collected from various sectors across the city, with a detailed report to be submitted "at the earliest" to rule out any contamination threat.

Infrastructure and Disciplinary Measures Intensified

Beyond the water audit, the CEO reviewed several other critical projects. He stressed the importance of the 80-cusec Ganga water project, directing officials to complete all pending work by this month. This project is deemed vital to meet the escalating demand from rapid urbanisation and growing residential and industrial needs.

Other key decisions from the meeting include:

  • Formation of a special team to prepare an improvement plan for master plan road-3.
  • Orders to procure advanced mechanised cleaning machines for drain maintenance.
  • Disciplinary action against three assistant project engineers of the public health department, who were served show-cause notices and had their salaries withheld due to negligence in sanitation work.

Greater Noida Launches Parallel Inspection Drive

Simultaneously, the Greater Noida Authority initiated its own safety drive. On Thursday, CEO Ravi Kumar NG ordered the formation of eight inspection teams following complaints about possible water contamination.

These teams are conducting random checks of the water supply, sewer, and drainage networks. Their mandate is to identify leakages in water lines, choked or overflowing sewers, and any illegal or faulty connection points. On the very first day, the teams covered more than 20 locations, including sectors 1, 2, 4, 16, 16B, Knowledge Park-3, Ajnara Society, Ace City, and Panchsheel Hynish.

The authorities have also provided dedicated helpline numbers for residents to report issues. Complaints related to contaminated water can be made to the senior manager (water) at 9205691408 or the manager (water) at 8937024017.

The coordinated efforts in both Noida and Greater Noida underscore a proactive approach to safeguarding public health. By auditing infrastructure, accelerating key water projects, and enforcing accountability, the authorities aim to restore and ensure confidence in the safety of the region's drinking water supply.
