The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will offer free entry to Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, and Mehtab Bagh between 6am and 12pm on Sunday, June 21, as part of the 12th edition of International Yoga Day celebrations. The initiative includes special yoga programmes at these heritage sites.

Background of International Yoga Day

International Yoga Day was first observed globally on June 21, 2015, after the United Nations adopted India’s proposal to mark the day annually. This year marks the 12th edition of the event.

ASI’s Initiative to Blend Heritage and Wellness

ASI officials stated that the initiative aims to bring together cultural heritage and wellness by encouraging visitors to participate in yoga at historic monuments. “The move intends to blend cultural heritage with holistic wellbeing by drawing visitors to historic sites and sharing the spirit of yoga,” an ASI official said.

Yoga Camps and Participation

In addition to the free entry, yoga camps will be held at several parks, Panch Mahal, and Eklavya Stadium, where thousands of participants are expected to gather. Administrative officials from different departments will join the programme at Eklavya Stadium, while police personnel will participate in a collective session at Police Lines at 6:30am.

District-Level Events and Theme

Officials noted that the district-level events were planned to promote regular yoga practice for health, immunity, and overall wellbeing. This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’, focuses on using yoga to support physical and mental fitness through different stages of life. According to ASI, the free entry period is from 6am to 12pm on Sunday.
