In a significant development for integrative medicine research, the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) in Bhubaneswar has announced a pioneering study to evaluate the anti-cancer potential of homoeopathic medicines specifically targeting gallbladder cancer. This ambitious two-year project represents a collaborative effort between NISER and the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), operating under the Ayush ministry.

Principal investigator Manjusha Dixit, associate professor of biological sciences at NISER Bhubaneswar, explained the methodology: "We will be working to determine the effect of carefully selected homoeopathic medicines in controlling gallbladder cancer progression. Our approach involves using established scientific models to see whether these medicines demonstrate efficacy, and if they do, we will investigate the precise mechanisms through which they work."

Dixit emphasized the urgency: "India has one of the highest incidences of gallbladder cancer globally, accounting for approximately 10% of total cases reported worldwide. Within India, certain states show particularly high frequencies of gallbladder cancer cases, with Odisha being among the most affected regions. This geographical concentration motivated our specific focus on this cancer type."
While previous studies have examined genetic predisposition factors that make certain populations more vulnerable to gallbladder cancer, this research takes a novel therapeutic approach. "This time, I am exploring the therapeutic angle to test whether homoeopathy drugs can effectively combat cancer," said Dixit, who has extensive experience researching various cancer types.

The research team, comprising three researchers including two from CCRH, has established a clear progression plan.
