Government Arts and Sports College, Jalandhar, has added another feather to its cap as Vishal Kumar, a student of MSc Yoga, successfully qualified the UGC-NET examination in Yoga.

The college administration expressed confidence that Vishal’s success will motivate more students to strive for excellence and bring further laurels to the institution. The college, founded in 1961 by the then Chief Minister Partap Singh Kairon, was the first sports college in Asia and played a pivotal role in establishing Punjab as a powerhouse in sports.

The college had first launched the MSc Yoga programme around three years ago with the aim of integrating the ancient Indian practice into formal sports education. While the initial admissions were modest, authorities said that response was much better due to the increasing awareness about the numerous benefits of yoga among young people.
