Governor Kavinder Gupta leads International Yoga Day celebrations in Shimla
Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta participated in a mass yoga session at the historic Ridge ground in Shimla on Sunday to mark International Yoga Day. The event was jointly organized by the Himachal Pradesh Police Department and the Department of AYUSH. Addressing the gathering, the Governor highlighted that India’s ancient tradition of yoga has been embraced by people across the world.
“A healthy body is the foundation of a healthy mind. Yoga provides a holistic path to physical fitness, mental well-being and spiritual growth,” he said. The Governor, who performed yoga exercises alongside his wife Bindu Gupta, urged people from all walks of life to adopt yoga as an integral part of their daily routine.
Nearly 90 minutes of guided yoga exercises
Faculty and students from the Department of Yoga Studies at Himachal Pradesh University guided participants through nearly an hour and a half of yoga exercises. The session included a series of asanas and breathing techniques designed to promote physical and mental health.
Pledge for a drug-free Himachal Pradesh
Earlier, the Governor administered a pledge for a drug-free Himachal Pradesh to all participants. He also honored individuals who demonstrated excellence in yoga practice by presenting them with certificates of appreciation.
Theme: Yoga for healthy ageing
Referring to this year’s theme, “Yoga for healthy ageing”, the Governor said the entire nation is conveying the message of health, wellness and active living through yoga. The theme underscores the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle as people age.
Dignitaries attend the event
Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, Shimla Mayor Surinder Chauhan, and Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari were among the attendees of the event. The gathering included a diverse cross-section of participants from various age groups, reflecting the universal appeal of yoga.
