Dharwad Hosts Bhimpalas Music Festival to Honor Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi's 104th Birth Anniversary
The city of Dharwad is paying tribute to the legendary Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi on the occasion of his 104th birth anniversary with the Bhimpalas Music Festival. This cultural event celebrates the life and legacy of the iconic vocalist who ascended from modest origins to become a colossus in the realm of Indian classical music.
Festival Details and Organisational Support
Organised by the GB Joshi Memorial Trust, the festival is scheduled for February 4 as part of an ongoing series of commemorative cultural programmes. The next instalment in the Bhimpalas Music Festival series, titled Swara Jhankara, is being presented on this date. The event receives support from the Kshamata Foundation, associated with Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, and the Violin Academy of Pune, highlighting a collaborative effort to promote classical arts.
Event Schedule and Performances
The festival will commence at 5pm at the Alur Venkatarao Bhavan in Dharwad. The opening performance features a vocal recital by Pune-based vocalist Vidushi Sania Patankar, who hails from the esteemed Jaipur–Atrauli gharana. Following this, the audience will be treated to a violin recital by Pandit Tejas Upadhye. The concluding segment of the evening will be a vocal concert by the renowned Kirana gharana vocalist Pandit Anand Bhate.

Accompanying artistes for the performances include Pandit Bharat Kamat, Anurag Alurkar, and Pandit Suyog Kundalkar, ensuring a rich and immersive musical experience.
